FLY is a vibrant, community-based nonprofit which provides vital youth services to one of DC’s most neglected neighborhoods. Their mission is to support youth east of the Anacostia River in achieving their educational goals, developing their talents, and expanding their leadership roles. FLY serves youth aged 7 to 18 from the Barry Farm Ward 8 communities and surrounding neighborhoods of Southeast Washington, DC. Most of FLY’s youth participate in the program from three to nine years, following FLY’s unique long term, year-round model. FLY is committed to supporting these students with opportunities that augment their school learning and experiences until they graduate from high school and begin to pursue college, vocational school, or meaningful employment.

Established in 1997 by young corporate professionals on Wall Street, StreetWise Partners works to empower motivated, low-income individuals to be able to achieve the job they want. Our unique model matches volunteer mentors with motivated participants who work with them over 14 weeks to develop their employability skills, including hard skills (computer training, resume creation) and soft skills (communication, professional etiquette, networking). Together, we help economically distressed adults develop the job-search competence, the necessary soft and hard skills, and the access to professional networks to secure sustainable and career-advancing employment and be employable in the rapidly changing global economy.
