YCDC is in the process of forming partnerships with several local and national organizations. Below is a current list of our Community Service Partners. Please check back periodically to see if we've formed any new partnerships.
Throughout the year, YCDC volunteers will assist BFTC and their mission to provide low-income DC residents with a variety of services. YCDC volunteers will stock the food pantry, assist in the clothing room and medical clinic, prepare grocery bags, and other ad hoc assignments as needed. YCDC and BFTC have setup a monthly volunteer night and other opportunities to leverage the YCDC volunteer skill base will be identified as this partnership evolves.
YCDC Monthly Volunteer Night
...the second Wednesday of every month...
YCDC volunteers prepare grocery bags, stock the food pantry, and assist the medical clinic every second Tuesday of the month. Volunteers meet at the Northwest Facility (1525 Seventh Street, NW) from 6-8 p.m. We need 10 volunteers each month. If you are interested in being contacted each month contact Katie Tobin.
YCDC is excited to announce a new partnership with Community Academy Public Charter School (CAPCS), a High Performing charter school that responds to the pressing need for a link between children’s daily school experiences and their after-school care. CAPCS provides superior academic experiences, an extensive after-school program, and a full range of family support services. Community Academy now includes four campuses. Each campus shares the common mission of creating child- and family-centered community learning environments which offer a world-class education and is an asset to the neighborhood.
Throughout the year, YCDC volunteers will assist CAPCS and their mission to create child- and family-focused learning environments that offer world-class Preschool through Twelfth grade education for the diverse communities of the District of Columbia. As volunteers work with students in various academic activities, they will also be serving as positive role models for our young population. Volunteers are also needed to help with various extra curricular activities throughout the year. The after school clubs and activities schedule will be posted (coming soon) and any volunteers who see an activity they would like to help out with are welcome to become a regular volunteer with students in this group (organized through Loree at CAPCS). Regular volunteers are also needed to assist with some class service-learning projects. YCDC and CAPCS have setup a monthly volunteer event and other opportunities to leverage the YCDC volunteer skill base will be identified as this partnership evolves.
YCDC Monthly Saturday Volunteer Event
...the second Saturday every month (during the school year)...
Each month YCDC members volunteer with CAPCS and their Saturday Academy Program to assist the staff and children in grades 1-5. YCDC members provide additional support to the teachers and serve as positive role models to the children. These children attend the Saturday session because they often need extra support and attention and sometimes are in danger of failing.
Volunteers meet at the Northwest Facility (11300 Allison Street, NW Washington, DC 20011) from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. We need 10 volunteers each month. The dates are subject to change so check the events page or contact Katie Tobin.
