  2. Expand your own professional network and enhance your leadership, team building and communication skills
  3. Join a top emerging social enterprise during an exciting stage of growth and help us deepen our reach in D.C.

YCDC Member Volunteer Opportunities:

  1. One-time opportunities…
    • SPEED NETWORKING. Participate in a one-hour networking event with our mentees during which you listen to multiple 30-second 'elevator pitches' from our mentees and provide them with feedback regarding their performance to facilitate growth in their networking capabilities.
      • Speed Networking Session 1: Wednesday, May 19, 6:30pm – 7:30pm
      • Speed Networking Session 2: Saturday, May 22, 12:00pm – 1:00pm
    • INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWS. Be added to our database of professionals our participants can contact for informational interviews. This would involve speaking on the phone for 10 minutes with a mentee about your job and how you got there, helping them to make important decisions about what career they want and how to go about achieving their dream.
    • GUEST SPEAKERS. Visit one of our sessions as a guest speaker and share your knowledge and skills with our mentees. Sample topics include office professionalism, public speaking, and financial literacy.
    • PANEL. Be a guest on a speaker panel on careers and job searching, a part of our program that our participants particularly benefit from and value. Volunteer Officers facilitate and encourage questions, allowing panelists to respond from their variety of backgrounds. (Next opportunity: Fall 2010)
    • MOCK INTERVIEWS. Attend our mock interview days as a guest interviewer and help us give our mentees a real life experience of different kinds of interviews. (Next opportunity: Fall 2010)
  2. Become a Career Ventures Program mentor…
    • ADULT AND YOUNG ADULT CAREER VENTURES PROGRAMS. StreetWise Partners’ mentors work to empower motivated, low-income unemployed or underemployed young adults and adults to build workplace skills and create sustainable employment networks. During our 14-week Career Ventures program, you will meet weekly with your mentee and help them learn critical job market skills including resume writing, interview preparation, computer training, career goal setting, public speaking, and business etiquette, among others. The Fall 2010 Career Ventures Programs will start in September.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please email dcvolunteers@streetwisepartners.org or call Lauren Libera, Director, Washington, D.C. Region, at 202.454.2022.
